  7.     With new urgency, an old joke is making the rounds in
  8. Moscow. It may not be a knee slapper, but the times make it
  9. worth retelling. Shifts in Soviet leadership have historically
  10. moved from the bald to the hirsute: from the chrome-dome Lenin
  11. to the brush-cut Stalin; from Khrushchev to Brezhnev; from
  12. Andropov to Chernenko. Which brings everyone to Mikhail
  13. Gorbachev, who is nearly as bald as a darning egg, and to the
  14. upstart Boris Yeltsin, whose mane of graying locks ruffles
  15. conspicuously these days in the winds of change.
